A Whole New World

Just to get my sentiments across.

i sat down and summoned distant aged memories, calling the pictures to roll again in an old fashion.

It marveled me to no end the way technology ruled our world.

Sometimes, it came to me on a random event that things are becoming increasingly too easily accessible to us - no matter what.

Do you remember the days when your social circle is likely to be exclusive and limited by a number of people?

We all would know it's because it all takes a longer time.

We would write letters and hope that the postman better be responsible enough to get our personalized messages swiftly across to the person whom is to be regarded as a friend or buddy. We wrote, called and travelled across the miles in order to get in touch with our friend. Through the hassles, your friends would be so grateful and moved by your effort. In return, they occasionally send their regards, packaged with love and warmth during the seasons' greetings. i suppose, finally, through this method of sharing and exchange manifested the underlying principle of friendship, that, such conventional doings and behavior perhaps defined human friendship. It was rather straight forward to tell apart a friend, or a foe.

Also more importantly, at that time your friends are likely to be people of significance to you as they appeared frequently, bustling in and out of your life, accompanying you through various daily activities. That was how we meet people along the way. This, however, could be quite unlikely of now.

Okay now fast forward.

i bet you encountered this - people who could not relate very well to you are appearing on your Facebook, to be more precisely, on top of your pending list for your approval to become 'friends'. And so, i suppose by hitting the approval button we are deliberately increasing the size of our social circle by letting them in. Yes, the people whom you have yet come to know well. We'll know them later by having online conversations anyway. So this is how we meet people in the modern era. Neat, huh?

Worse is when we became infatuated. Meeting interesting people out of no where was never easier and quicker than before. Attending to them all at one time was no more impossible, even the number of kinds of personalities made available to your fancy were probably endless. Sooner before you realize, as more people got into your circle they become indistinguishable. Now, we do not only become spoilt for choices but such process also facilitates loosening of ties between us and the real deal buddies. They could no longer have the undivided attention that we used to be able to give them.

i'm talking about living in an era of information overload (when using filters are useful).

And i thought. As much as human inventions are designated to serve as extensions to our human capabilities, it simply destroyed the more meaningful part of some traditional ways of life.

Life changed, as well as the ways of life.

So where are you holding onto? ^^v
